Before you hang: What, like it’s hard?

[5 points to anyone who got the movie reference in the title. “What, like it’s hard?” referring to applying to Harvard Law School. Legally Blonde 2001. ]

Right now, what I think you need to know/the only thing most college kids care about are the basics.

“I have a picture frame and I need to hang it”

Well what do you know! I have a picture hanger! We make a great team. So now all you need to do is go to OOKS.com (or any of our local providers) and order the exact hanger you need and….WOAH! There are different kinds of hangers? Oh yea. Many.

Have no fear. The expert is here! (This is a new slogan I’m trying out…I’ll try harder.)

There are 2 areas you need to know about before you hang:

1. Wall Power: 3 different types of walls

1.Dry Wall or Plaster; Mostly indoor

To tell the difference between Dry Wall and Plaster take a Tack/Push Pin and try to push it into the wall. If you are able to then it is Dry Wall. If not it is Plaster. With the exception of the OOK EZ Push Shield Hanger, you will most likely use the same hangers on both these types of wall.

2. Concrete; Very Hard

3. Brick; Very Hard, mostly used outdoors, distinctive color…you know!

You can find the hangers used for Concrete and Brick on our page in the Concrete & Brick Hangers section!

2. Your Frame

1. Does the frame designate a place for a hanger? Does it have a wire on the back? Are there 2 rings on both sides to hang on a nail? Is there a sawtooth hanger on the back? Or is there nothing at all? All of these options are totally fine and hangable!

2. In order to choose the right nail you should know a ballpark number of how much it weighs. This part can be kind tricky and sometimes frustrating! No-no you won’t need a scale (unless you want to – then definitely go for it!). What I like to do is look at the different weight options and decide whether it’s over or under that. For example, if there is a 20, 30 and 50 pound option I would say, “Well its definitely under 50 but over 20. Let’s just get the 30 pounder.”

This step is important because if you end up getting a hanger that cannot support the weight of your frame, the frame could potentially fall and anything worth putting on your wall is obviously important!

After you and your frame become BFF (best friends forever or best Frame forever – either one works for me!) you’ll need to choose the hanger to use!

We are going to get into more detail on how to hang anything and everything! I’ll explain with each type of wall and many different hanging styles. I may even give you some inspiration on some fun arrangements you can do with your picture frames to make the space more exciting!

This is fun stuff isn’t it! I know it!
